Community Supporting Community

The South Whidbey Community Center is a space built by and for the community.

While the campus property is owned by the South Whidbey School District, the Center itself operates independently and does not receive funding from local tax dollars. Every program, every improvement, and every open door is made possible through community support. The campus stays active through a combination of Campus Partner rent, grants, volunteers, and generous donations from people who believe in the importance of this space.

Completed Projects

Completed projects at the Center that have been made possible through the support of generous donations and grants.

Community Sports Field Transformation
What began as an underutilized field is now a year-round recreational hub for South Whidbey. Through funding, in-kind services, and volunteer support, the space was rehabilitated to promote youth athletics and open community use.
Frank Rose Gallery Creation
In partnership with the Langley Arts Fund, Campus Stewards helped transform the Center’s main hallway into a dedicated exhibition space. The gallery now serves as a rotating platform for local artists, enriching the cultural life of the community while expanding access to the arts.
Revamped Website Launch
With support from the Whidbey Community Foundation, and collaboration with Campus Partner Atelier AMANAMA, Campus Stewards developed a new website to improve visibility, streamline event promotion, and make it easier for the community to engage with campus programs & partners.
Mural Garden Revitalization
A grant-funded effort led by community leadership restored and refreshed the Mural Garden, preserving an important creative space on campus. The project enhanced both the visual identity of the Center and its role as a gathering place for artistic expression.
Campus-Wide Public Art Installations
From the Great Blue Heron mural to the Dahlia mural, pizza ovens, and youth-led street art walls, the Center has become a living canvas. These collaborative projects, many led by students and local artists, have transformed the campus into an interactive, creative environment.
Campus-Wide HVAC Infrastructure Upgrade
A major systems improvement project replaced and installed new HVAC units across the Main Building, strengthening the long-term functionality & comfort of the Community Center, and year-round usability for all campus programs and partners.
